Oxford is a city. It's located in the county of Oxfordshire in England. Oxford has Roman origins, but it was not initially established as a Roman town. The area around Oxford was inhabited during Roman times, and there is evidence of Roman presence, including archaeological finds such as coins, pottery, and traces of Roman roads. However, Oxford did not become a significant Roman settlement like some other towns and cities in Britain. Its prominence grew in the medieval period and later as a center of learning and culture, particularly with the establishment of the University of Oxford in the 12th century.
